Interesting Times – Crisis or Opportunity?

by

“May you live in interesting times.”

The above quote has often been called the Chinese Curse, with interesting times considered a harbinger of difficulties to come.

Well, we certainly do live in interesting times, engulfed in massive socio, political and economic upheavals.

Crisis?

Or

Opportunity?

What does it all mean for those of us, actively engaged in the UK property market? Should we buy, sell or sit on the side-lines and wait?

As with all things in life, the answer to these questions depends on your perspective. Some people will only see crisis and some will only see opportunity and both will be right.

How come?

Our perceptions become our reality. If we only see crisis, we will shut ourselves down to the opportunities that always abound, whatever the broader circumstances that we operate in.

Now, this doesn’t mean that we become completely “Gung Ho”!  Of course not, we need to be measured. We do need however to be open to opportunities that are out there. And, crucially we need to collaborate.

Collaboration is The Answer For Property Professionals

Collaboration is the key to success in the property market and especially so in turbulent times. No one can be a success on their own. We all need solid relationships with agents, lenders, builders, professionals, joint venture partners and investors.

So, in these interesting, turbulent times, my advice to all in the property industry is to be open to what may arise and to nurture your relationships.
